Key Features
-
Waterproof and Fog-Proof Construction: O-ring sealing and nitrogen fill prevent moisture infiltration and internal fogging, keeping your view clear in rain, sea spray, or condensation-heavy environments.
-
Buoyant Design: These binoculars float if dropped overboard or into water, so an accidental slip does not mean a lost optic.
-
BAK4 Porro Prism System: High-density barium crown glass prisms deliver a bright, round exit pupil of 6.8mm with excellent edge-to-edge image clarity, superior to standard BK7 glass.
-
7x Magnification / 50mm Objective Lens: A powerful combination for low-light performance, broad field coverage, and hand-held stability without a tripod.
-
Built-In Illuminated Compass: The integrated compass displays a real-time bearing through the eyepiece, powered by the included CX936 batteries. The ambient light window on the top housing automatically adjusts display brightness to match conditions.
-
Rangefinder Reticle and Range Dial: The etched reticle scale on the right eyepiece barrel, combined with the rotating range-finding dial on the body, lets you estimate target distance quickly using a known object height.
-
Multi-Coated Lenses: Anti-reflection coatings increase light transmission for brighter, higher-contrast images across all lighting conditions.
-
22mm Eye Relief: Eyeglass wearers retain the full field of view without compromise.
-
Tethered Rubber Lens Caps: Both objective and ocular lens caps are rubber-tethered to the body so they stay attached and are never misplaced in the field.
-
Complete Kit Included: Ships with a 320D nylon carrying case, cleaning cloth, yellow floating cloth, 2 CX936 batteries, and instructions.

Compatibility
The Rothco 7x50MM Binoculars (20272 / 20273) are a standalone optical instrument requiring no mount or host system. Tripod thread compatibility has not been confirmed by Rothco and should be treated as unverified.
The included 320D nylon carrying case fits both color variants. The tethered rubber lens caps are integrated and are not designed for third-party replacement.
These binoculars are appropriate for open-water maritime use, land-based surveillance and patrol, search and rescue in wet or variable weather, and extended outdoor use including hunting and wildlife observation.
Note for users: These are fixed 7x magnification binoculars. Users requiring variable zoom should select an alternative product. The full-size 50mm objective makes this instrument unsuitable as a compact or pocket binocular.
Intended Users
The Rothco Military Type 7x50MM Binoculars are built for professionals and serious users who need waterproof, navigation-capable optics that go well beyond casual recreational use.
Military personnel and veterans will recognize the GI-style layout immediately: Porro prism body, integrated illuminated compass, and rangefinder reticle are standard tools of the trade, now available at an accessible price point.
Law enforcement officers and security professionals benefit from the rangefinder and compass for site surveys, perimeter monitoring, and rapid distance estimation during active operations.
Coast Guard, maritime patrol, and recreational boaters will appreciate the buoyant, waterproof build. These binoculars handle spray, rain, and accidental submersion without losing clarity or function.
Search and rescue teams operating in wet terrain, coastal environments, or low-light conditions get the dual advantage of multi-coated optics and an illuminated compass in a single instrument.
Hunters, wildlife observers, and serious outdoor enthusiasts who need a rugged, full-size binocular for dawn and dusk use will find the 50mm objective and 6.8mm exit pupil deliver noticeably brighter images than smaller-aperture alternatives.

How to Set Up and Use
Getting the most out of these binoculars takes less than two minutes of first-time setup. Follow these steps before your first use.
Step 1: Set Your Interpupillary Distance (IPD)
Hold the binoculars up to your eyes and pivot the two barrels on the center hinge, moving them closer together or further apart until you see one single, perfectly circular image. Every person's IPD is slightly different, so take a moment to dial this in precisely. Note your setting for fast future reference, especially if the binoculars are shared.
Step 2: Adjust the Eyecups
If you wear eyeglasses, fold the rubber eyecups down flat so your eyes sit closer to the ocular lenses and you retain the full 22mm field of view. Without glasses, extend the eyecups to their fully raised position. This prevents stray light from affecting your view and reduces eye fatigue during extended use.
Step 3: Focus and Diopter Calibration
Cap or cover the right objective lens. Looking only through the left barrel, rotate the center focus wheel until a distant object appears sharp. Then uncover the right objective, cover the left, and rotate the diopter ring on the right eyepiece until that same object is equally sharp in your right eye. Once both eyes are calibrated, use only the center focus wheel for all future distance adjustments. Note your diopter setting so you can return to it quickly.
Step 4: Activate the Compass
Press the illumination button on the top of the housing to power the compass display. The ambient light window automatically reads surrounding light levels and adjusts LED brightness so the bearing scale is readable in both bright daylight and low-light conditions. Replace the CX936 batteries when the display dims noticeably or the reading becomes unreliable.
Step 5: Use the Rangefinder
Sight the target through the right eyepiece and align it against the reticle scale etched on the barrel. Using a known object height (such as a standard vehicle at roughly 1.5m or a person at roughly 1.75m), rotate the range-finding dial on the body to match the object's apparent size against the scale. Read the estimated distance directly from the dial. This system works best on objects with a known, consistent reference height.
Care and Storage
- Clean lenses with the included microfiber cloth, working from the center outward. Never use paper towels, household glass cleaner, or abrasive materials, which can damage the multi-coated surfaces.
- Store in the included nylon case in a dry environment. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat.
- The nitrogen-filled, O-ring-sealed body is maintenance-free under normal use. Do not attempt to disassemble the optical body.
- If the binoculars are submerged, rinse with fresh water and dry thoroughly before storing.
